Beech Grove,

I took a tour of the Amtrak Beech Grove Shops on a cold day in
Spring 2001. Beech Grove is just south of Indianapolis, Indiana.
Although Amtrak currently runs the Beech Grove Shops, it has a long history going
back to the early 1900's and was used as a repair facility by several other railroad
companies including the Big Four, New York Central, and Penn Central. Be sure to
check out some of the historical photos related to Beech Grove and the shops at the Indiana Historical Society site.

Here I am in front of
P-42 engine #60. I had met this engine before, although I didn't know it when this
picture was taken. This engine took me on my first train trip (the Zephyr), although
it had a different paint job in '99. |
